“On the Couch” with Scott McDougall

In May 2020, IPAA Queensland was delighted to host, in partnership with Holding Redlich, Stewards On the Couch featuring Queensland’s new Human Rights Commissioner Scott McDougall.

About Scott McDougall:

Scott McDougall is Queensland’s first Human Rights Commissioner with responsibility for the Human Rights Act 2019 and the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

Scott has extensive experience in the areas of discrimination and human rights law. Since admission to legal practice in 1993, he has advocated on behalf of communities and conducted litigation in the areas of discrimination, native title, criminal law, guardianship and coronial inquiries.  He has overseen the design and implementation of numerous legal and social work service programs and has undertaken several projects facilitating engagement between governments and communities including working with the Palm Island Aboriginal Shire Council to prepare the Palm Island Future Direction Report (2006).

Scott was Director and Principal Solicitor at Caxton Legal Centre Inc (2002-2018) and served as President of the Queensland Association of Independent Legal Services (2009 to 2013). He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Queensland University of Technology.
