Knowledge sharing in the face of complexity – Bright People and IPAA Queensland

In 2023, IPAA Queensland extended our memberships to non-government organisations who are part of the wider public purpose ecosystem through their work supporting government and public outcomes.

An early subscriber to our organisational memberships, Bright People shared some insights into why they joined IPAA Queensland.  We took five to ask Monique Purcell from Bright People a few questions about why they came on board as a member, and we invite you to #keepinformed as to this new IPAA Queensland offering and why you should #buildconnections.

  1. As a non-government organisation, why did you join IPAA Queensland?

Bright People have enjoyed a close affiliation with IPAA Queensland over the past five years, as a trusted partner delivering People Projects across the sector, deciding was well and truly time to make it official and join as a member to further our commitment to enhancing public administration.  Our purpose of igniting real energy, creating brighter futures, where people and organisations thrive powerfully aligns with contributing to better outcomes and sustainable change for Queenslanders.

Membership allows us to mutually benefit from and support professional development, stay at the cutting edge of thinking and practice, and build trusted, long-term relationships with others engaged in public purpose work.

  1. What value do you see IPAA Queensland offering the public sector?

IPAA Queensland offers leaders across the public sector valuable opportunities for professional development, thought leadership, and networking. It provides a platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and innovation, enabling public sector professionals to stay updated on best practices and trends.  This is important given the strategic imperative of delivering an Even better public sector for Queensland.

IPAA Queensland also fosters a community of professionals committed to public purpose, promoting excellence and integrity in public administration which aligns with not only the work we do, but also the values of our business, particularly our core value of integrity.

  1. What do you see as the most pressing challenge facing the public purpose sector?

The most pressing challenge facing the public purpose sector in our opinion is the need for adaptive leadership and innovation in a rapidly changing environment. The sector will evolve as it continues to address complex issues like climate change, digital transformation, and social inequality while navigating shifting community expectations and political landscapes where fearless advice, coupled with robust capability throughout the public purpose sector and its partners will be key.

  1. How can your organisation play an active role in addressing this challenge?

As an independent, Queensland owned, established people advisory firm, Bright People proudly partner across the sector with leaders and departments in building their capacity for adaptive leadership, innovation, and collaboration. Bright People bring our partnering approach to provide expertise including leadership and capability development, cultural transformation, and strategic workforce planning, helping public sector professionals to thrive in a dynamic environment and deliver effective outcomes for Queenslanders. By partnering with IPAA Queensland, we will amplify our impact and contribute to a more capable and effective public purpose sector.

About our Non-Government Organisational Memberships:

Membership supports the professional development of your workforce, particularly your current senior leaders and emerging leaders. It supports leaders to be at the cutting edge of thinking and practice in public administration, and to build their networks with others engaged in the profession or who support public purpose work – industry and community organisations, tertiary institutions and local, state, and federal government agencies.

Organisational membership supports IPAA Queensland’s mission of enhancing the capability and professionalism of public administration across Queensland. It makes a statement. It says that your organisation is genuinely committed to making an important contribution towards achieving better outcomes for Queenslanders. Membership achieves this by supporting growth in thought‐leadership within your organisation and the public purpose sector more broadly.

Our organisational memberships are open to government departments, agencies and statutory bodies at local, state and federal levels throughout Queensland. We also welcome memberships from private and not-for-profit organisations that are engaged in public purpose and from universities.
