Transforming Government in a post COVID-19 world: A Summary from Deloitte
It is time for the orthodoxies employed by Government to change.
As highlighted by IPAA Queensland partner Deloitte, in their recent white paper, Transforming government post-COVID-19, the old normal won’t work anymore.
With all levels of government responding to the COVID-19 pandemic through increased collaboration, expedited decision making and policy implementation, all in an effort to protect Australians against a one-in-a-century health crisis.
But – now there is no turning back.
As discussed by Deloitte, many aspects of public service operations will be difficult, or impossible, to resume, at least in the near term. From licence approvals to court appearances to regulatory inspections, governments are finding different ways to achieve their outcomes, whilst maintaining the increasing needs and expectations of their citizens.
And – the ultimate question being asked across the public purpose community is “What else should government stop doing and what should continue from the COVID-19 response?”
It is time to flip the orthodoxy and continue to call the status quo into question. So, what does Deloitte detail in their paper. Read on to find out.
Figure 1, shared below, examines 10 government orthodoxies being challenged by the pandemic, and how flipping them could lead to greater value, developing a culture of innovation, a better experience for citizens, businesses and employees, and revamped postpandemic operating models.
The white paper published by Deloitte investigates the opportunities within each orthodoxy, and details how transformation can take place within each.
From reimaging onsite work environments, training, to employing digital technologies to provide efficient and tailored services, flipping these orthodoxies and leveraging them could lead to the next evolution in public purpose work execution.
As public purpose workers in Queensland, we look forward to sharing more about how these orthodoxies can applied to our state and local and regional contexts shortly. In the meantime, how can you flip the orthodoxy in your own public purpose work?
