Reflections on reconciliation

Today is the start of National Reconciliation Week 2021!  This year’s theme – More than a word. Reconciliation takes action. – encourages all of us to take braver and more impactful action.

At about this time last year, IPAA Queensland hosted a virtual Stewards on the couch (SOTC) event with Dr Chris Sarra (Director-General, Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships) and Angela Barney-Leitch (Pro-Vice Chancellor, Indigenous Strategy, QUT) in conversation with Lizzie Orley, FM98.9FM radio host. The conversation proved to be one of our most popular SOTC events!

Chris and Angela spoke candidly about growing up in Queensland, their family, childhood experiences, education and their careers championing positive change for First Nations Peoples.

They also shared their views on reconciliation, which together with their lived experiences, provide some compelling insights on the journey towards reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

During this year’s National Reconciliation Week, we’re pleased to share a video excerpt of Chris and Angela reflecting on the journey towards reconciliation.

This video is an excerpt from the Stewards on the Couch interview with Chris and Angela, filmed in June 2020. To read more please click here.
